We've been to Royal Palm Beach Pines Natural Area in the middle of the summer rainy season and found the place bone dry. On the other hand, a typical South Florida storm can render the Pine Lily Trail impassable, at least for those like us who prefer dry feet. The trail at this point became a pond that extended for 40 or 50 feet and across its width into the adjoining vegetation. Of course, if you're on horseback, this probably ain't no thing. The plants found in these places, yellow-eyed grass, yellow hatpins and roundpod St. Johns wort among them, give evidence that the area is wet a good portion of the time, creating a micro habitat if you will that otherwise wouldn't exist.
