Camera Corner: An Introduction
So who am I and why am I writing a column about photography? Two good questions, particularly the second. First off, I am not a professional photographer, nor do I consider myself an expert amateur photographer. I am just a guy who takes pictures, and has picked up a few things over the years. My intention here is to share a little bit about myself, my journey into photography and dispense some basic advice about the art.

Our Favorite Photos of 2024
Ok let’s turn back the clock a bit. Time for our annual favorite photos of the past year photo story. We’ve had our head so far down trying to complete a rebuild of our website that we didn’t realize that we were still featuring our 2023 edition.

Most of the photos are of our feathered friends taken at Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach for two main reasons: it's an excellent place to spot birds and it's only minutes from our house. We visit several times a week in the cool of winter and the slog of summer. Most were not published other than maybe on our Facebook page until we began our review for this project.

Seeing in a New Light; Our Favorite Photos of 2023
It was a weird year for us, 2023 was. Outside of a trip to Blue Spring State Park, circumstances forced us to focus our attention on our backyard figuratively and literally. New looks at old places, new tools to look at the world a little differently, new creatures, old creatures in a new light.

Our Favorite Photos of 2022 (And a few from 2021)
These are some of our favorite photographs of 2022, and a few from 2021, most of which have not been published on this site previously. Emphasis on the word favorite, not necessarily out best. In some ways each tells a story or evokes memory or an emotion.

Red-shouldered Hawks, Napping Gators and Other Odds and Ends
BOYNTON BEACH, JAN 22, 2014 — One of the fun things about walking the boardwalk at Green Cay Nature Center is discovering something cool, then sharing it with others who come along. But sometimes you get your own private show. As we were leaving Green Cay this one recent afternoon, we had the luxury of a few minutes to kill, so decided to drive along the back row of the parking lot even though it's a bit out of the way.

Accidental photograpy, Lake Ida edition
DELRAY BEACH — We've titled this feature "accidental photography" but there really isn't anything accidental about the pictures themselves. What is accidental is the circumstances under which they were shot — the places and the times. They're illustrations of one of our favorite photographic maxims: "F8 and be there." Be where the action is, have your camera and have it ready to shoot.

Photos of the Week: An encounter with a gopher tortoise
BOYNTON BEACH — Animals usually do one of two things when confronted with perceived danger: fight (or at least put up a good front) or flight. A gopher tortoise we encountered while walking a trail one evening at Seacrest Scrub Natural Area chose a third option: do nothing. When we’ve had similar encounters with gopher tortoises before, they’ve generally scooted into the nearest brush as fast as possible. And forget about any preconceived notions you might about these creatures and their ponderous looks. They can move.
