Water or the lack thereof defines most habitats, and North Jupiter Flatwoods Natural Area is a fairly wet place. Not overwhelmingly so but you can see it on the driest of days during the driest of seasons in the vegetation that lives here. Orange and yellow milkworts, yellow hatpins, yellow-eyed grasses, roundpod St. Johns wort all need a wet, or at least moist, environment in order to thrive. Hike the trail to the north end of the natural area and the influence of water becomes more obvious as evidenced by this small cypress dome swamp. The graded area on the left is the trail before it turns south. Farther to the left is private property.
