Visitors begin and end their tour of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in pine flatwoods, the driest and most upland of the preserve's habitats. Here, the canopy is relatively open, dominated by slash pines and cabbage palms (aka sabal palms), while saw palmettos and wax myrtle take over near the ground. You'll still find plants that like it at least a little on the moist side, like St. Johns worts, coreopsis — Florida's state flower — and our personal favorite, savannah false pimpernel.
