A Mosaic of Wet Meadows

Royal Palm Beah Pines Natural Area, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach County

wet meadow
Much of Royal Palm Beach Pines Natural Area is a series of open, wet meadows surrounded by pine flatwoods. In these meadows, you'll find wildflowers like roundpod St. Johns wort, water toothleaf and pinebarren milkwort. If you're willing to tolerate the heat and humidity of August and September, you might see a South Florida rarity, Catesby's Lily, aka the inspiration for the Pine Lily Trail — pine lily is another common name for the same plant. These are plants that like it wet but can tolerate dry conditions for a period. The Pine Lily Trail is beyond the slash pine flatwoods.
