The pine flatwoods in the vicinity of Kitching Creek and Kitching Trail is probably the most visited "wild" area of the park because of its location near the parking lots and picnic area. Walk along the trail and it seems like the slash pine woods goes on forever, no sign of ending. It's a great place to hunt for wildflowers and birds. Note the char on some of the trees, the result of prescribed burns that keep the habitat healthy.
