Back in 1965, someone in Florida's parks department got the idea that Hugh Taylor Birch State Park needed a railroad to take tourists through its confines. For 20 years, it operated, giving passengers a 30-minute tour of the park. The tracks are long gone but this trestle remains, marking the spot where the train crossed over Long Lake. It is, apparently, still structurally sound, and there are plans to build a boardwalk and observation platform across its length to take advantage of the views of Long Lake it affords.
