Haute Cuisine — For Birds

J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel, Lee County

If birds rated places to eat the way we humans rate restaurants, Tarpon Bay and J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge would get three stars in the avian version of hte Michelin Guide. It's an important stop for migrating birds passing through on the way south (or returning north) and those who hang here either through the winter months or year round. The mudflats and shallow waters of the bay are perfect for hungry birds looking for a meal. The birds with the long, curved orange bills are white ibis; those with a bit of yellow are snowy egrets.
