Mangrove Forests

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, Key Biscayne, Miami-Dade County

mangroves
Mangrove forests make up the western coast of Bill Baggs north of No-Name Harbor. What you see along the water's edge are predominantly red mangroves, the "walking tree" easily identified by their prop roots that extend into the water. These forests provide critical habitat for wildlife, especially birds and marine life, while protecting the land against the tides and storm surge. They can be explored by canoe or kayak, but there is a hiking trail that allows you to get a landside view.
