Changing Seasons and Scenery

Big Cypress National Preserve, Ochopee, Collier County

defoliated cypress trees
Visit this site along one of Big Cypress National Preserve's back country trails during late spring into early fall and you'll find it a lush green. Visit it in late fall like we did when we clicked the shutter button to take this photo and this is what you'll see: cypress trees nearly devoid of needles. It's a not-so-subtle reminder that Florida isn't necessarily green 12 months out of the year. In our eyes, at least, driving Interstate 75 through Big Cypress National Preserve in the fall is about as close to leaf peeping as it gets in Florida. It's actually kind of cool.
