View from the Tower: Endless Wilderness 2

Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area

wilderness

Slash pines begin to dominate this part of Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area, a sign that the land is getting a bit higher and drier. The depression marshes seen along most of the Echoche Trail are gone. This is the view east from the tower. You see pine flatwoods, followed by a wet prairie and more flatwoods. Again, no signs of civilization other than a portion of the trail seen in the foreground to the left. Also look carefully in the the tall pines toward the right and you'll see a red-shouldered hawk. The Ocean to Lake Trail is a short distance to the left. You might begin to wonder where are the cypress swamps as Loxahatchee Slough begins to look drier and drier. The answer is here.
