There are three short trails at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. This is the Grove Trail, which takes hikers through a subtropical hardwood hammock. It's an easy hike, the trail outlined with cocina stones. The one hazard here is the poisonwood trees, and there is no shortage of them. The sap of the tree contains the same oily stuff that puts the itch in poison ivy. The trees are easily identified by the blotchy orange, yellow and black trunks. There is one at the far left edge of the photo, with a gumbo limbo tree just to its right, and another toward the right edge. Do not touch!
