As we note earlier, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a bit of a surprise, 175 acres of wilderness in an otherwise urban area. The existence of Long Lake is another surprise within the park. It is a narrow freshwater lake that extends for 0.8 mile. In the photo you can see the trestle built in 1965 to accomodate a small railroad that took passengers on a 30-minute tour of the park, and below some paddlers exploring the waters. A rental center and launch sits to the right of this photo. Behind and to the right is Terramar, the former home of Hugh Taylor Birch and now the park's visitors center. Farther to the rear and right is a park restaurant and access to the beach section of the park.
