As you might expect, Halpatiokee Regional Park is largely on wet side when it comes to habitat, but it does have a bit of dry as well. The cut area in the foreground is scrub-like, a collection of small, shrubby oaks, saw palmetto, staggerbush and fetterbush that has been reduced to mulch. Beyond you see scrubby flatwoods, a scattering of slash pines with a scrubby understory. Continue westward and you'll come to Interstate 95, which is one big reason why that mulch exists. More on this at our next stop.
