Sea Leve Rise: An Existential Threat

Big Cypress National Preserve, Ochopee, Collier County

Climate change and sea level rise is obviously a threat to a goodly percentage of the world's population. In South Florida, it's a particular threat especially in the extreme southern end of the Peninsula. Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve could simply disappear over the coming decades as the planet warms and ice caps melt. This interpretive sign and accompanying pole situated near the Nathaniel P. Reed Visitors Center graphically explains the threat. Water levels could be as high as the 12-foot mark on the pole by 2300, according to certain projections.
