Down Country Roads

Allapattah Flats Wildlife Management Area, Palm City, Martin County

country road
This crushed rock road is the main thorofare through Allapattah Flats, you might say. Continue down the road and you'll come to the campground and an open welland. Off the road to the left (west looking north) are various trails to explore. Look carefully for the trailheads. And yes, we borrowed the page title from the John Denver song. We lived in West Virginia for 11 years, and roads like this evoke memories of Almost Heaven. Note: there is a gate across this road at the entrance to the wildlife management area, but it can be opened and you can drive your car to campground if you so choose. We did not.
