This roadlike portion of the Quail Trail connects to both the Flagfish Loop Trail and the Wiregrass Loop Trail. The trailhead for the Flagfish Loop is to the right, beyond the edge of this photo and reconnects to the Quail Trail south of this point — to the photographer's back — after meandering through meadows and flatwoods for 1.5 miles. This part of the trail is essentially a levy, standing high and dry above the meadows and cypress swamps to the right and the long, canal-like impoundment to the left. Indiantown Road is just beyond the treeline in the background; the parking lot can be seen in the middle of the photo, slightly to the left. Egrets, great blue herons, limpkins and moorhens are common in and around the impoundment — Photo by David Sedore
